It occurred to me that I’ve never had to work for anything that I’ve gotten.
This does not mean that I don’t know what hard work is, or that I’ve never worked. I’ve worked plenty.
What I mean is that I’ve never had to work … or else.
Or else I wouldn’t … get my first car.
Or else I wouldn’t … go to college.
Or else I wouldn’t … have nice things.
Or else I wouldn’t … buy my first home.
I’ve been very, very fortunate in that regard.
But there is a difference, when you have to work for something, or else.
You have no choice but to make sure that it works.
(If that’s what you really want to happen.)
Perhaps that’s when you do your best work.
